Methodology

  1. Published dollar window: USASpending spending_by_geography for contract types A/B/C/D, new_awards_only, place of performance, 28-day lookback. Retrieved 2026-09-09 and stored in this repo. Weekly = window × 7/28. Monthly = window × 30/28.
  2. Desk counts: when WonAlert’s weekday ingest has at least five matching rows for the state (and NAICS prefix), award counts come from that live sample. Otherwise counts stay blank. We never invent subscriber or customer counts.
  3. Role slice is an illustrative share of in-state weekly dollars (Specialty subcontractor: 2.5%). It is not a probability you will win work.
  4. Capacity = hours per week ÷ 1.5 hours for one first call (recipient lookup, outreach, note).
  5. Missed-desk leakage = addressable weekly dollars × min(1, delay days / 5). A five-day grapevine zeros the first-call week.

What is the Award Chase Calculator?

It estimates how many federal prime awards and how many dollars recently posted in a U.S. state (optionally narrowed by NAICS), then frames what a late desk costs if you hear about those awards days after USASpending publishes them. It is not a bid matcher and not a win-rate predictor.

Are these official USASpending totals?

Dollar volume starts from a cited USASpending new-awards-only geography pull for a 28-day place-of-performance window. When WonAlert’s weekday ingest has enough rows for that state (and NAICS prefix), award counts come from that live desk sample. Every number is labeled an estimate.

Why does learning an award late cost money if the prime is already awarded?

The prime is posted. The first-call window to that recipient — teaming, specialty buyout, or supply — is still open for a few weekdays. If the grapevine is five days late, that window is gone. The calculator treats that delay as leaked pipeline, not as a claimed lost contract.

How does the NAICS filter work?

Enter 2–6 digits. WonAlert applies it as a prefix on ingested NAICS codes (236 matches 236220). If the ingest sample is thin after the filter, the page says so and keeps state-wide published dollars visible so the tool does not invent a sector census.

How do Starter and Pro relate to this estimate?
